Inhalt
Die beiden Filmemacherinnen, Ute Aurand und Ulrike Pfeiffer, filmten sich gegenseitig auf vier berühmten Plätzen Europas: im Winter in Berlin vor dem Reichstag, im Sommer in Paris im Brunnen auf dem Place de la Concorde, im Frühling auf dem Roten Platz in Moskau, im Herbst im Bankenviertel von London.
Der Film beginnt mit einem Text von Jonas Mekas über Improvisation. Der litauische Filmemacher und Schriftsteller spricht den Text selbst: „Improvisation is, I repeat, the highest form of concentration, of awareness, of intuitive knowledge, when the imagination begins to dismiss the pre-arranged, the contrived mental structures, and goes directly to the depths of the matter. This is the true meaning of improvisation, and it is not a method at all, it is, rather, a state of being necessary for any inspired creation. It is an ability that every true artist develops by a constant and life-long inner vigilance, by the cultivation ― yes! ― of his senses.“ *

Kontext
Zusammen mit Ulrike Pfeiffer sieht Ute Aurand 1986 auf den Internationalen Filmfestspielen in Berlin Jonas Mekas’ Film HE STANDS IN THE DESERT, COUNTING THE SECONDS OF HIS LIFE (1985). Aurand und Pfeiffer sind sofort hin und weg. Nur ein paar Tage später entsteht der erste Teil von OH! DIE VIER JAHRESZEITEN (1986-88).
